What is telematics?

Telematics is a method of tracking cars, trucks, equipment and other assets using GPS technology and on-board diagnostics (OBD) to plot the movement of assets on a computerized map. Also known as fleet tracking or GPS vehicle tracking, telematics is now an essential tool for managing many commercial and government fleets. Imagine a competent computer in your vehicle that can monitor and report on almost every detail — from speed to fuel economy, low tire pressure, and more. This information, or telematics data, can help save on vehicle maintenance costs or improve fuel efficiency by learning more about your driving habits.

Easy installation and use

The hardware consists of a central unit, a junction box, a QR reader and a car key. The central unit, junction box and key are hidden behind the dashboard in the car. The power supply is most easily obtained via the car's OBD socket with the supplied cable. Alternatively, power can be taken from the fuse box. The QR readers are placed on the inside of the front windscreen and connected to the junction box. This is the entire installation. It takes less than 30 minutes and requires no previous experience. When the system has not been used for 8 hours, it goes into sleep mode to save energy. The system is activated by the user pressing a button on the QR reader. You press the outside of the windscreen and the QR reader, located inside the windscreen, detects it and wakes up the system. The car can then be opened using the QR code that appears in the booking information in the web-based system or in the app. Alternatively, the car can be opened via a button in a web-based system or in an app. To lock the car, the driver presses a button next to the windshield.
